My first starting out entry, job hunting with Linkedin and other sites

Well considering that I’m also looking for work at the same time that I happen to be working on this, it shows that I can multi-task, but that’s easy with a computer that can be able to open multiple windows at the same time which really helps out big time. Currently right now working on the site Linkedin (http://www.linkedin.com/) which is like the “Facebook” of job hunting here, and it means that I can gain contacts that I would normally not ever have, so this is a rather great web site (namely considering that different job hunting sites like “Monster.com” or “Careerbuilder.com” are only posting jobs up directly from the job after the internal (or near internal) fails to yield anything that would actually be worth it.). However the only slight disadvantage to this (just like with any site that wants to help you out, doesn’t matter if it happens to be a job hunting site or a dating site), is that they require you to pay for any upgrades so that you can get more out of the services that they happen to have, personally if I had the programing knowledge, I would actually create a fully free site that would allow you to have everything right off at the start, and it would solely be the advertisers that would be paying for everything instead of the people trying to use the site in the first place.

Though on a side note, there is one thing that does happen to help when it comes to job searching that does make the time easier to deal with, and that’s listening to the music that you happen to like. Like for me it’s listening to the music of Alice 96.7 (http://www.myalice967.com/) here in the Fresno, CA area. I would also be listening to my mp3 player right now, however I don’t have that option currently at the moment, at least not till possibly after this coming Tuesday (namely after someone that I know happen to come back into town). However the music does help big time.

One of the things that doesn’t happen to help things is when you happen to have a profile for job hunting (doesn’t matter which job hunting search form that you’re using, i.e. Linkedin.com, Careerbuilder.com, or Monster.com) that your profile is seen but then glazed over and no one contacts you because you don’t have what they’re looking for, so in the end you end up getting more hits with your profile being seen then you actually get when it comes to people actually contacting you for a possible job. Personally that just irritates the hell out of me, but it’s not like I can do anything about it and get them to actually stop doing it in the first place, after all they’ll just claim that they need to look at the profile in order to see if we happen to have what they need in the first place, and when we don’t just go back and just keep looking, all the while letting that little check ratchet up the number of times the profile gets viewed in the first place. Honestly if these places were going to be helping us get the work that we’re needing they would make the search formula put up only those that the employer is looking for and not those that they’re not looking for at all.

One of the things that I’m currently having a problem with on Linkedin (though I doubt that others are having the same trouble as I am), is that when it comes to the connections, even when I try to get a new connection through someone who I’ve already got a connection with, it tells me that I don’t know that person so I can’t get that connection at all. Personally I’m wondering why I can’t use my Facebook friends for connections, but then again with me I put (nearly) everyone from my Facebook page into my address book on my e-mail that way I have a way to get in touch with them off of Facebook, other wise there’s no way to get in touch with any of them out side of that system. Though I did pose that question to them, however if they actually go for it is entirely up to them, but it would be seriously worth the connection if they were to do that.

Among the many things that Linkedin happens to have are many different applications to use that others can see, some are good while others happen to be not so good, and one of the ones that I’m currently using is the blogging one. That right now is one of the stranger features that they have for others to read, however it will be posting up this entire blog that I’ve been writing here. I just wish I knew how many were actually going to be reading this whole thing.
